Share Your Top Lesson with Fellow AFL Tipsters
Another year gone and hopefully another year wiser. Still we can always learn from each other. Give a piece of advice to other AFL tipsters coming into our forum so we can all get a leg up on the bookmakers.
Share with the group one of the AFL betting tips you learned this last year!January 7, 2016 at 2:55 pm #5736thr33kingsParticipant
I’ll share a little with this forum.
Here’s what you need to have a winning portfolio with AFL betting. You need to win on average over 52.5% at average odds of $1.90. (The average bookmaker margins in Australia are 4.9%)
You’ll want to start with a minimum range of parameters so you don’t overwhelm yourself and you can verify that the parameters that you’re taking into consideration are actually statistically significant.
If any of you want to share what parameters/statistics you personally watch we are all ears.

You have to crunch the numbers before EVERY GAME if you want to beat the odds. It’s that simple… or not simple.
If the team didn’t change much since the past season you can use your statistics from the previous season. Be wary betting on teams early on in the season that have changed a significant portion of their starting lineup. You’re practically throwing money away if you do in my opinion. Finding statistics is not the easiest thing. You’ll want to search for the sites that give you statistics and build an excel spread sheet on where to you find specific odds.
The alternative is to just bet for fun and know the bookies generally win in the long run. This is fine if you bet within your limits and just do it to make the game a little more exciting.January 7, 2016 at 3:48 pm #5738thr33kingsParticipant
I also want to say that this site does a good job letting you know the best odds for certain bets on big events. The sports betting news section here is ace. Obviously they don’t cover every event in their news but they don’t sell you out to one bookmaker when they cover a game or fight. That’s actually one of the big reasons I keep coming back to the ABO.January 7, 2016 at 3:57 pm #5739John WalkerKeymaster
